Viles Arboretum
Viles Arboretum is a free, easily accessible, botanical garden that is open from dawn to dusk, seven days a week. The space includes six miles of trails, several botanical collections, and local art (all marked and signed), on 224 acres.
A Unique Destination for All: Every year, thousands of people come to the Arboretum to enjoy its many offerings. The six miles of trails coursing through 224 acres of forest, field and wetlands, combined with 20 botanical collections, provide a regional resource of great recreational and educational significance. People from around New England and beyond come to pursue botanical interests, conduct research, hike our trails, view nature themed art, walk, bike, jog, bird watch, and even horseback ride on designated trails. Tables and benches can be found throughout the grounds which provide spots for resting and picnicking. In winter, our groomed trails offer excellent cross-country skiing while other trails are maintained especially for snowshoeing. Throughout the year, various programs, workshops and events offer unique educational opportunities for people of all ages.
