Ogunquit

The coastal town of Ogunquit entices visitors to its seaside cliff walk, fantastic shopping, and 3.5 miles of sandy beaches. Ogunquit Beach is frequently voted one of the country’s best beaches and it’s easy to see why – miles of soft sand, dunes edged with roses and endless Atlantic views.

Enjoy the panoramic views from Marginal Way, a 1.25-mile paved path along the ocean’s edge past grand hotels and cozy beaches. At the southern end of the path, you’ll find Perkins Cove – a quaint village full of shops, restaurants, and art galleries. 

Things to Do in Ogunquit

Artists have called Ogunquit home for more than a century and today, you can go gallery hopping, like at The Barn Gallery, for exhibitions, gallery talks, demonstrations and workshops. Don’t miss the  Ogunquit Museum of American Art which has celebrated Ogunquit’s artist colonies since 1953, or The Ogunquit Heritage Museum. Enjoy a show at the  Ogunquit Playhouse, an iconic summer theater with world-class productions.

From May to October, enjoy Ogunquit from the water on a lighthouse cruise or whale watch with Finest Kind cruises.

In downtown Ogunquit, there are plenty of charming shops — though some close their doors when temperatures drop, so it’s always a good idea to call ahead. At the many gift shops, like the Abacus Gallery, you can peruse for handcrafted items inspired by the state’s beauty and Ogunquit’s artistic flair, including home décor and jewelry. Stop in at Harbor Candy Shop for luscious chocolate treats that add a little luxury to any day.

Where to Stay in Ogunquit

Many B&Bs, inns and fine hotels call Ogunquit home. The Cliff House Resort is on the rocky coast overlooking the ocean, and offers premier suites, a spa and wellness center, oceanfront dining and more, all located minutes from Ogunquit’s sandy beach. The Beachmere Inn is a favorite for cozy luxury and the on-site restaurant, Blue Bistro, or stay at The Meadowmere Resort, a family-owned hotel with a Roman Bath and pools. For a more casual stay, there are numerous campgrounds in nearby Wells.

All the fresh sea air will pique your appetite and there are many options for breakfast, lunch and dinner in Ogunquit! Dine right on the beach at the Ogunquit Beach Lobster House! Jonathan’s restaurant has been a mainstay in Ogunquit since 1976 not only for a good meal, but for live concerts and events. Enjoy the raw bar or full menu at Brix + Brine, or The Greenery Cafe is a great spot for breakfast or lunch. The Front Porch has a popular sing-along piano bar to accompany your meal and for a night of fine dining, head to M.C. Perkins Cove.
