Top Mountain Bike Trails in Bethel
The Bethel area has long been a headquarters for skiers and snowboarders, but when the snow isn’t falling and lifts have stopped spinning, it has something else to brag about: epic mountain biking.
Miles of mountain biking trails, some well-loved and a growing number of new additions, scatter out in a web through the hardwood forests and rolling foothills. Much like ski season, there is downhill fun to be had for every level of rider during the warmer months simply by swapping your planks for two wheels.
Many of the area’s mountain biking trails were built by local non-profit, Inland Woods + Trails, which continues to maintain and expand riding in the region through community engagement. It’s best known for their work on the popular Bethel Village Trails, a year-round trail network in the heart of downtown Bethel. Cyclists can access the 5.6 miles worth of trails from the Bethel Inn Resort which are great for both beginner and intermediate riders. Find some more heart-pumping action and technical features on the eight miles of Gould Academy’s Pine Hill trails which are easily accessible by the Bethel Village Trails via a connecting route.
The trails are free to use during the summer. Consider supporting Inland Woods + Trails through donations and purchasing a membership online.
The nearby Bethel Community Forest offers nearly 16 miles of single and double track riding as well. This large parcel of land is a part of IWT’s vision to continue expanding through a multi-use trail network that will ultimately connect communities of Bethel and beyond to the peaks of Sunday River through forests host trail corridors that are open to hikers, mountain bikers, and snowmobilers.
Just south of Bethel in Albany Township, Mahoosuc Pathways constructed another mountain-biking spot at Bacon Hill. It sports four miles of mostly intermediate-level loops and a multi-feature playground for riders wanting to work on their skills.
Check the Inland Woods + Trails for trail conditions and information on seasonal closures.
Another option in nearby Greenwood is the lift-serviced Mt. Abram Bike Park. The diverse terrain is suited for all abilities and perfect for the whole family.
