Stonington Lobster
Morning
Begin the day with a hearty breakfast at The Harbor Café, a favorite of the locals.
Midday
Take the ferry to Isle au Haut aboard The Mail Boat. You will travel through some of the most beautiful islands along the Maine Coast. The Stonington archipelago is breathtaking! There are bike rentals on the island, and a well-marked trail system for hiking. All season long, The Maine Lobster Lady serves up award winning lobster rolls out of her food truck. Absolutely delicious, and the setting is all Maine!
OR
Book a Lobster Fishing Scenic Tour on The Mail Boat. Either trip will provide a top-notch experience in this quintessential fishing village.
Kick back with a coffee at 44 North Coffee, at the downtown Stonington café (on your way off island, be sure to stop into the 44 North location in Deer Isle where they roast the beans!). Or treat yourself to homemade ice cream at the Stonington Ice Cream Company. Both are located on Main Street.
Splurge at Aragosta. Try the lobster cakes or lobster tortellini. Now located on Goose Cove, this island favorite serves up locally sourced foods.
The historic Opera House Arts is a vibrant local performing arts center and movie house. Open year-round, be sure to check the calendar of events.
Evening
Stay at the Inn on the Harbor. Ask for a harbor facing room and get a close look at the goings on in this small but mighty fishing village.
Local Tips:
Check out the Stonington Farmer’s Market. This is not your average market. Here you will find a blend of farmers, artists, fishermen, bakers and craftspeople. A must.
