With thousands of miles of rugged coastline, you’ll discover more than 60 iconic lighthouses in Maine. These historic beacons direct maritime travelers to a safe harbor—and there’s even one on Cobbosseecontee Lake, the only landlocked lighthouse in the state.

Most of Maine’s lighthouses aren’t generally open to the public, but one day each year, more than 20 locations invite guests to see them up close. Maine Open Lighthouse Day is held every September and you can climb many light towers and enjoy a rare peek at these coastal guardians.
