20 Parklands, Endless Opportunities
Nestled in the DownEast and Acadia region, Cobscook Shores is a series of preserves on the eco-rich shores of Cobscook Bay near the historic town of Lubec. With 20 privately owned parklands, its size is comparable to that of a national park. Its unique topography will have you immersed in nature, featuring miles of undeveloped shorefront, bluffs, coves and islands discreetly located away from the bustling roads.
With so much beautiful land and water at your fingertips, there is plenty to do. Enjoy a scenic hike or walk on more than 15 miles of shorefront trails on Cobscook Bay, or paddle around one of the many island coves, where you may pass by a lobster boat or two. A bike ride with views of the turquoise bay is an invigorating experience, with plenty of picnic sites and trailhead restrooms to keep you going. Groomed trails are enticing for cross-country skiing in the winter.
Know Before You Go
- Keep it quiet: Enjoy the peace of nature without radios, drones, or loud noise.
- Parking: No RVs or other large vehicles are allowed.
- Paddlers should stay updated on the tides. Motorboats are not permitted.
- Dogs are welcomed on-leash only, except for Old Farm Point, where they may be off-leash.
- Leave no trace: What you carry in, take out with you.
- Camping and cooking are allowed at designated tent sites at Huckins Beach and Trail. Fires are prohibited in all Cobscook Shores parklands.
- Stay hydrated: Bring your own drinking water.

Eat and Drink
After a day of adventure, head into town for some local cuisine. Morano’s Authentic Pizza offers Jersey-style thin-crust pizza that will satisfy kids and adults alike. For seafood and water views, try Fisherman’s Wharf.
Where to Stay
Lubec inns offer rest and relaxation following your Cobscook Shores excursions. Located in a restored waterfront, Water Street Tavern & Inn features endless water views and a family restaurant serving DownEast delights. At the Inn on the Wharf, you’ll be falling asleep to the sounds of the sea and can get out on the water during the day with one of their whale-watching tours.
